Roy Keane said he recently became enraged by a player when his team was losing and wanted to confront him after the match.

The Manchester United legend made the comments about the recent Stick to football podcast, brought to you by Sky Betting.

Keane normally takes his anger out on Premier League players and clubs, but the discussion in the podcast took a different turn a surprising turn towards League Two football and in particular the match between Milton Keynes Dons and Salford City on Monday night.

Canadian goalkeeper Tom McGill, who is on loan from Brighton to MK Dons, was the subject of Keane’s tirade over his behaviour in the closing stages of their 1-0 defeat to the Class of ’92 club.

“It’s absolutely madness when players come up and play at the back when they’re losing,” Keane said in the podcast.

Keane complained about the number of touches Gill (left) took as MK Dons searched for a goal to get back on track in their League Two clash with Salford City on Monday night

‘The goalkeeper came forward, he touched the ball seven or eight times…

“I would hang around the dressing room after the game and see the MK Dons keeper and ask him, ‘You know, if you’re losing with 15 minutes to spare? [left]…you fucking lose!’

Keane’s tirade prompted laughter from podcast hosts Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.

The former United captain continued his tirade, saying he currently wished he could take ‘time out’ while watching the game.

“You know, in American sports, the timeout. After 70 minutes you just do the timeout,” Keane said, making a “T” gesture with his hands.

“The guys come to you and say, ‘Guys, you know we’re losing, you’ve got to get the ball over there.

“[You see] 19 passes. MK Dons. Who do you think you are? Pass it on. It’s like they don’t know what the score is.’

Carragher then turned to Salford co-owner Neville and joked: “Those are the opinions of Roy Keane and not Salford FC.”

McGill himself told the club’s media channels that the performance was not good enough.

He said: ‘We leave the pitch feeling that we dominated, that we created chances and that we looked really good at certain moments in the game. I think that’s the role of our style of play.

‘But even where they tried to stop us from doing what we wanted to do, we sometimes tried to be a little more direct and that worked for us too.

“The energy of the group in general, the style we try to play, I think we’re going to make it work and we’re always going to create chances. We’re always going to have big moments in the game. But it’s one win out of four at the moment and it’s a disappointing night.”
