Roy Keane has asked Marcus Rashford to keep up his goalscoring form after scoring a late penalty in Man United’s FA Cup win over Everton.

Erik ten Hag’s side secured their place in the next round of the competition thanks to goals from Antony, Rashford and an own goal from Conor Coady. The Everton defender also scored his team’s equalizer in the first half.

Rashford was instrumental in the win, drawing praise from ITV pundits after the match, including United legend Keane, who said he “expects” top-level performances from the England striker.

The England international converted a penalty in the dying moments of the match

United legend Roy Keane praised the England international after the match.

Speaking after the game, Keane said: ‘This is what I expect from him now. I’m not surprised by what I’ve seen of him tonight. I think he is now becoming one of United’s main players.

‘Can he make them compete for trophies again? You are taking responsibility. I look forward to this from Marcus every week. When he has wingers in 1v1, he will go through you. We can’t even be too critical of their [Everton] defending tonight.

Rashford helped restore Man United’s lead in the game during the second half, after Seamus Coleman flicked a pass and drilled a cross into the box that Coady turned into his own net.

Even a 24-year-old Seamus Coleman can’t make a case for that. It’s too fast. He will decide what he will do, that’s what good players do,” Keane continued.

‘You can’t stop players who are in top form. And Seamus, he is [Rashford] I have it on toast there.’

Rashford stepped up to coolly deflect his penalty to wrap up the home side’s victory.

The 25-year-old now has five goals in his last five games for Manchester United.

The England striker scored five goals in his last five matches after scoring a late penalty for his team during a 3-1 win.

Speaking about his current form, after the game, Rashford said: “In terms of performance, he’s probably the best I’ve ever had, so I feel good on the pitch, I’m getting into positions and areas to score goals.” If I keep creating chances, I feel like I’ll keep scoring.

“It’s always good to go through in cup games and the FA Cup is definitely special to play in. We’re happy to go through to the next round and more importantly we keep up the momentum and win games.”

Rashford also scored a goal in Man United’s second of the night: a Conor Coady own goal.

Earlier in the game, Rashford’s teammate David De Gea came under scrutiny for his role in Everton’s equaliser.

The Spaniard allowed the ball to go between his legs and into the path of Everton defender Conor Coady, who converted from close range to level the game.

United will be hoping to continue their fine form in their next match, which will take them on against Charlton Athletic in a Carabao Cup tie on Tuesday night.
