Roy Keane believes a move away from Man United can BENEFIT Marcus Rashford after his latest snub… as he praises Ruben Amorim for ‘putting down a marker’ to axed stars by leaving them out of derby

A departure for Marcus Rashford would suit him, Roy Keane believes, after the England striker’s future was thrown into further doubt when he was left out of Manchester United’s squad to face Man City.

Rashford struggled against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League in midweek and Amorim made the bold call to leave his £325,000-a-week striker out entirely for the trip to play Pep Guardiola’s City team.

For Keane, who has been a notable critic of Rashford, there is a growing sense that an exit could suit all parties.

“Quality is not enough,” he said Air sports.

‘Quality in terms of picking moments in a game and recently [he’s] hasn’t been that great. It may be an ending, but let’s not write him off, he was just left out of the squad. It doesn’t look good for him.

‘I think a move for Marcus certainly suits the plater, a new challenge.

‘Whatever your talent is at a big club, if your attitude isn’t quite right, and certainly not his lately, then I think it’s probably a good thing to part ways.’

Amorim’s selection round, which also saw Alejandro Garnacho removed from the squad, will be questioned should United fail to achieve a positive result at City.

But the United head coach’s bold decision impressed Keane, who believes his ruthless lead has set a ‘marker’ for the rest of the squad.

“It will be a big talking point because they have been involved in all the other games,” he said of the decision between Rashford and Garnacho.

“He clearly saw something he didn’t like and he looked into it.

“They’ve probably had a clean slate since he came in, but he doesn’t like what he sees with their performance on the field. He talks about their attitude towards training, travelling, the way they talk to staff, work pace etc.

‘It’s a big ask to leave them out of the squad, but for those of us who have watched United recently it’s not a big surprise as both players have been poor. He probably said ‘enough is enough’.

Keane added: “It’s a big decision from the manager but I like to see it. He puts a stamp on these players and it’s all about how these guys respond to it.”

The former Manchester United captain has been unimpressed with Rashford all season and highlighted the 27-year-old’s body language as he played against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday as an example.

‘You hope [Rashford] is disappointed,” he said.

‘It will be a setback for him, but we saw it coming. We’ve talked about Marcus over the last two years, attitude, off-field stuff, some of the issues that are going on.

‘The other night when he first got out [his] body language on the couch, all these little signals.

“Remember you have a new manager and new staff at the club and they will pick up all those things. Clearly [Amorim has] I picked it up and am not happy with it. He’s the manager and he called.’
