Roy Hodgson open to staying on as Crystal Palace manager next season

Roy Hodgson is open to staying on as Crystal Palace manager next season… as the Eagles consider giving the Premier League’s oldest boss, 75, a new deal

  • Roy Hodgson took charge of Crystal Palace to keep them out of relegation
  • He replaced Patrick Vieira as interim manager until the end of the season
  • The Palace hierarchy will decide whether Hodgson should be given the chance to stay

Roy Hodgson is open to extending his second reign at Crystal Palace as the club consider offering their interim head coach the chance to stay at Selhurst Park.

The 75-year-old returned to his previous club in March – a move first revealed by Mail Sport – following the sacking of Patrick Vieira, signing a contract until the end of the season.

Hodgson’s appointment has proved a huge success, leading the Eagles to Premier League safety with five wins from his eight games.

Palace initially viewed Hodgson’s return to South London as a stopover before appointing a permanent head coach for next season.

However, the veteran coach’s impressive impact has raised the possibility of Hodgson staying in the role until next season.

With the end of the campaign in less than two weeks, Palace will discuss internally in the coming days how they intend to proceed with the appointment of a head coach.

Hodgson has made it clear he is relaxed about what the future holds and is keeping his options open.

Palace have started identifying potential longer-term candidates, but Hodgson’s knowledge of the Premier League and know-how to keep teams in the top flight will be an attractive proposition for the south London team.
