Collectors will soon have the unique opportunity to bid on two extremely rare Land Rover Defenders being sold at the same car auction.
One of the last ‘classic’ Defenders ever made – the 110 Heritage Edition – currently owned by Rowan Atkinson, goes under the hammer next month.
It is one of just 400 examples produced at the end of the iconic car’s life cycle almost a decade ago and is estimated to cost up to £80,000.
But that is not everything. The same Iconic Auctioneers event will also take place a No Time To Die Bond Edition 2021 Defender, which is expected to sell for double the price of the Mr Bean actor’s Land Rover.
Rowan Atkinson asked Iconic Auctioneers in 2017 to find this 110 Defender for him to add to his private collection
Land Rover manages to mark a milestone with a limited edition release.
So when the British brand called time after 67 years for one of the world’s most iconic off-roaders – the Defender Series – it was only natural to commemorate the occasion with a limited series.
Between 2015 and 2016, Land Rover built 400 Heritage Edition cars – the last Defender Celebration Series. It was a moving tribute to the original Series I, HUE 166 or the ‘Huey’ from 1947.
In 2021, Land Rover confirmed its 007 status by making 300 limited 110 V8 Bond Defenders, of which only 10 were delivered to British fans.
Having one of the last 400 Defenders ever made is something in itself, but having one loved and owned by comic genius and Land Rover enthusiast Rowan Atkinson is something that will go down in the British history books.
And if you’re a die-hard ‘Licence To Kill’ fan who appreciates Land Rover’s new Defender era, then getting your hands on the Special Edition film franchise might as well be a dream purchase.
Both cars will be on sale at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire from February 24 to 26.
Atkinson’s Heritage 110 has a guide price of £65,000 to £80,000, befitting its celebrity provenance, while the James Bond 110 is expected to reach a Fleming-frenzied £155,000 to £175,000.
This car has been kept in pristine condition, having driven only 3,800 miles and has been improved with £4,278 of extras added by Atkinson
Complete with Land Rover badging and traditional details such as the silver door hinges and
Atkinson was only the second owner of this Heritage Edition Defender.
It is a pristine example with only 3,800 miles on the odometer. Iconic auctioneers were commissioned in 2017 to find this five-door 110 especially for Atkinson to add to his personal collection.
Like all Heritage Editions, the 2.2-litre diesel car with four-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission is finished in Grasmere Green with an Alaskan White Roof, Heritage-style grill, headlight bezels and rugged steel wheels – all paying tribute to the original ’47 Huey.
A matching green Land Rover hardcover book was supplied with each vehicle and this copy is in perfect condition.
Other homages to the classic Series I include the silver front bumper with black end caps, historic badges on the grille and rear door, clear turn signal lenses, Indus Silver door hinges and body-coloured wheel arches and hubs.
Both front wings feature ‘HUE 166’ graphic elements.
Combined with these traditionalist details, there is more modern comfort for luxury lovers: a perforated leather steering wheel and gear lever, Almond Resolve fabric interior trim with the Heritage logo and a padded storage compartment between the two front seats.
The vents, door handles and locks are all aluminum.
Atkinson added his own upgrades: a factory-spec trailer hitch and electrical systems, as well as factory-spec air conditioning and car alarm.
Modern conveniences in the ‘Huey’ inspired Heritage Edition interior make it a great car for the luxury driver
Included in the price is the unique NO07 TTD private license plate
This blue 5.0 liter V8 model, finished in Santorini Black, is an eye-catcher even without the Bond decals
In typical spy style, the owner selling their 2021 Defender 5.0-liter V8 Bond Edition 110 remains a mysterious figure, but they clearly have the powers of persuasion to bag such a coveted car.
Created by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicles Department for Land Rover’s celebrated relationship with the James Bond franchise, the release of this 110 coincided with Daniel Craig’s final portrayal of the MI6 agent in No Time To Die.
It is a real collector’s example.
With 007 V8 electric blue graphics on the doors, 60 Years of Bond emblems on the inside and 007 on the side sills, this car is a real eye-catcher. Especially with the unique NO07 TTD private registration.
The Santorini Black right-hand drive model comes straight from the first owner with only 700 miles on the odometer.
This Defender was made by JLR for No Time To Die and is the same as the one used in the chase scenes in the film
With only 700 miles on the odometer, this Defender is in factory new condition and the ultimate collector’s item
