“There are a lot of things along the way — those absolute joys and highlights of my life — and there are elements that I miss, of course, but I didn’t necessarily want to go back and change any of that. because then it would change where I am now,” he said.

“And where I am now is a very happy place.”

In 2000, Rove landed his own self-titled TV show, Rove Live, which had been picked up by Network Ten after a brief stint on Channel Nine.

Rove was just 26 when he started hosting the variety show, and he was destined for big things, with many comparing him to big names like Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien.

It was around this time that Rove met his first wife, Belinda Emmett, an actress known for her role in Home and Away.

Tragically, Belinda died of breast cancer in November 2006 at the age of 32, just 18 months after marrying Rove.

After his wife’s death, Rove chose to take some time off from the public eye, but returned to TV the following year.

He soon moved on to actress Tasma Walton, 49, whom he married in 2009, and the couple are parents to eight-year-old daughter Ruby.

After ending his long-running show in 2009, Rove and Tasma packed their bags and headed to Los Angeles, where Rove had landed a regular spot on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

In 2011, Rove landed his own US TV show, Rove LA, which was given a two-year run before being canned.

He attempted a comeback by hosting Fox’s star-studded variety show Riot in 2014, but the series was axed after just four episodes.

Rove returned to Australia, but he struggled to find the same level of success as before he left, with local audiences seemingly growing weary of his bubbly persona.

His 2019 TV comeback, Saturday Night Rove, was unceremoniously axed after just two episodes.

Rove is currently starring in his new stand-up show, Slide Night, at the Opera House until June 25.
