Rory McIlroy suffers emotional rollercoaster at US Open as PGA Tour star DE-GREENS putt before chipping in for miracle par

Rory McIlroy endured an emotional rollercoaster during the second round of the US Open as he horribly missed a birdie putt before a stunning chip from the fairway saved par.

The two-shot swing took place on the par-3 hole No. 8, where McIlroy’s great tee shot delivered a challenging but doable birdie putt.

Commentators warned that the greens of hole No. 8 are fast and an inaccurate putt could lead to disaster.

McIlroy’s second shot at the hole missed the hole by about a foot, just before falling behind the green and ending up several yards into the nearby fairway.

Keeping pace with Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Cantlay among the leaders at Pinehurst required one of the best shots McIlroy has hit this year, and he delivered.

McIlroy’s chip took three bounces before settling and lost no pace before fading away to loud cheers from the North Carolina crowd.

Through the remainder of his second round, McIlroy hovered around 3 under par to stay within a few strokes of the leaders.

McIlroy’s past month has been incredibly remarkable as he filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll days before the start of the PGA Championship last month.

The Northern Irishman reversed course earlier this week and has reconciled with Stoll, despite rumors of romance with golf presenter Amanda Balionis which quickly surfaced after his divorce became public.

On the links, McIlroy is looking to end a decade-long drought without winning a major championship. McIlroy is still within striking distance with a competitive field at Pinehurst to do just that.
