The Roosters NRL top eight hopes are hanging by a thread after star five-eighth Luke Keary suffered a suspected broken jaw on Saturday.

Vision revealed that the playmaker suffered the injury while attempting a cover tackle on Newcastle winger Dom Young.

Fox League’s Lara Pitt revealed the worst fears for Keary and the Tricolors, who were disappointing in 2023 given their star-studded roster.

The Roosters have already sidelined young halfback Sam Walker with a knee injury.

He is tipped to be out for at least four weeks, with scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Keary, winner of the Chooks premiership in 2018 and 2019, has endured a shocking series of concussions in recent years.

He previously suffered five concussions in a 14-month span between January 2018 and May 2019, including one that similarly left him with recurring headaches for weeks.

Some reporters at the time suggested that Keary should retire medically, but the veteran chose to continue.

Keary made his NRL debut with the Rabbitohs in 2013 and won a premiership the following season.

He jumped to Moore Park in 2017 after a disagreement with South Sydney co-owner Russell Crowe.
