Roosters flyer Dominic Young DENIED chance to play old Knights teammates after grade-three charge by NRL match review committee following send-off against Bulldogs

  • Roosters star Dominic Young will miss at least two NRL matches
  • Follows the departure on Friday for a high shot against Bulldogs
  • Young, 22, will now miss the grudge match against the Knights

Sydney Roosters flyer Dom Young will be sidelined for at least two games after the NRL charged him for his high shot on Canterbury’s Blake Taaffe.

Young was sent off for the goal in the first half of the Roosters’ 30-26 defeat to the Bulldogs on Friday night. Young got more bad news on Saturday when he was handed a third-degree charge by the match review committee.

The winger will miss two games if he pleads guilty, and risks a third match on the sidelines if he contests the charges and loses.

Due to the suspension, Young will miss a first match against his former club Newcastle on April 11, as well as the blockbuster against Melbourne the following week.

The Roosters are already without captain and fullback James Tedesco and halfback Sam Walker for the Knights clash after both suffered concussion against Canterbury.

While Young’s charge is bad news for the Roosters, the NRL’s decision not to sanction Victor Radley will frustrate them even more.

Radley was adjudged for a hip-drop tackle on Stephen Crichton as the surging Roosters trailed 30-20 with eight minutes remaining.

Replays showed it did not meet the usual indicators of a hip-drop tackle, and it is understood the match review committee deemed it accidental and not careless.

Connor Watson’s involvement was also taken into account as he played a key role in the tackle’s end.

The Roosters continued their comeback with Radley off the field and got back to 30-26, but ultimately fell short with just 11 men on the ground.

Then Roosters coach Trent Robinson hit out at the bunker’s decision to sin Radley.

That one (Radley) was ridiculous,” he said.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson lashed out late in the match for the crucial decision to sin Victor Radley for a hip drop

“Connor is the one who tackles (Crichton) from behind and twists his ankle, and then (Radley) falls on that ankle.

‘How they got there, to that decision, is unbelievable. That was below standard.’

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo admitted he felt the decision to sin Radley was ‘harsh’.

‘Accidents happen. And we’ve been on the other side of them a few times,” he said.

“So I feel sorry for a guy who gets sent to the sin bin for hip drops.”
