Their new film Women Talking is set in 2010 and follows ‘the women of an isolated religious community who struggle to reconcile a cruel reality with their faith’.

The book from which the film was adapted was loosely based on the true story of seven men from an ultra-conservative Mennonite community in Bolivia who were accused of raping 130 women in their homes between 2005 and 2009 after drugging them with an animal anesthetic .

The seven men were sentenced to 25 years in prison, with prosecutors claiming there may have been hundreds more victims who did not come forward.
