Ronnie O’Sullivan fought back from 6-3 down to beat a stunned Judd Trump 10-7 to win his third World Grand Prix title in Leicester on Sunday night.

O’Sullivan has won six frames in a row – and ten of the last thirteen – and has now won the Shanghai Masters, the UK Championship and the Masters this season.

“I enjoyed it, I really did,” said O’Sullivan, who claimed Trump is his favorite to win the World Cup this year.

‘I managed to score a few frames this afternoon. 5-3 gave me a bit of optimism and I thought, I’ll come out and see what happens.’

The Rocket, who again had his future in the sport in doubt this week, initially showed little of the form that saw him blast into the final with a 6-1 defeat to Ding Junhui in Saturday’s semi-final.

Trump stormed out to a 4-0 lead, but ended the afternoon session with a 5-3 lead. After Trump won the first frame of the night, O’Sullivan showed why he remains the sport’s most formidable opponent.

Although far from his fluid best, he won the next four frames using his usual combination of magic, control of the cue ball, grit and fine safety play to take the lead for the first time at 7–6.

With O’Sullivan at 51-0 in frame 14, a missed red into the bottom left corner let his opponent in. After a break of 48, Trump needed the last black to win the frame, but his face fell as he agonizingly abandoned the ball. about the bag. O’Sullivan jumped out of his seat to take an 8-6 lead.

In a century-less final, O’Sullivan suffered another important miss, this time a brown that rattled the jaws of the corner bag.

And while fans briefly hoped for a thrilling finale when Trump pulled one out, O’Sullivan was in no mood to let him back in and claim his fourth title of the season.

“I think his safety was a lot better tonight. He came in first and scored a little heavier,” said a sad Trump.
