Ronald Reagan’s aides claim they know who he would have voted for in 2024, while making a shocking statement of support
In a surprise move, a group of former students who served in the Reagan administration revealed they are backing Kamala Harris for president over Donald Trump, even saying they believe their late boss would also support the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.
The announcement by the group of more than a dozen Reagan officials and aides is the latest in a series of endorsements of the vice president by Republican and former GOP officials.
In their letter of recommendation, the group noted that President Reagan made the famous statement about a βTime to Choose.β
βWhile he will not be here to witness this, we who have worked for him in the White House, in the administration, on campaigns, and on his personal staff know that he would join us in supporting the Harris-Walz ticket,β they wrote.
The Reagan alumni stated, “The time we face today is a choice between integrity and demagoguery, and the choice must be Harris-Walz.”

In their letter they argued that the choice was between “truth and lies,” “freedom and the suppression of freedom,” and “serving the people and serving the individual.”
Some of the Reagan officials who expressed support for the Democratic presidential candidate included Ken Adelman, who served as Reagan’s ambassador to the U.S., Deputy Assistant to the President for Communications Elizabeth Board, White House Social Secretary Gahl Burt, Deputy Assistant to the President B. Jay Cooper, and others.
The list of former Reagan officials also includes Pete Souza, who served as official White House photographer for Reagan and President Obama. Souza has long been an outspoken critic of Trump.
βIn this election, our votes are less about our support for the Democratic Party and more about our vocal support for democracy,β they said.
They wrote that they hope their letter “will signal to other Republicans and former Republicans that supporting the Democratic ticket this year is the only path forward to an America that is strong and viable for our children and grandchildren in the years to come.”

A Pew Research poll last year found that Republicans consider Reagan the best recent president, narrowly beating Trump.
But earlier this year, Reagan’s daughter Patti Davis said she doubts her father would want to be involved in today’s Republican Party.
The former Reagan candidate’s endorsement comes after a number of other former Republican administration officials and prominent GOP lawmakers spoke out against the ex-president’s candidacy for a second term.
Most notably, former Republican Party vice chairman Dick Cheney recently indicated that he would vote for Harris.
The former vice president who served under President George W. Bush wrote that “there has never been a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.”
A few days earlier, his daughter Liz Cheney, a former Wyoming congresswoman and longtime Trump critic, had also expressed her support for the vice president.

βI don’t think we have the luxury of writing down candidates’ names, especially in swing states,β Cheney said.
In addition, more than 230 Republicans who worked for leading Republicans such as President George W. Bush, the late Sen. John McCain and Sen. Mitt Romney also endorsed Harris last month.
The Harris campaign and Democrats are actively trying to appease Republicans in their efforts to reduce Trump’s margin.
During their convention, a number of prominent Republicans and even former Trump White House officials took the stage to explain why they voted for the Democratic candidate.
The campaign has also launched Republicans for Harris and has been busy reaching out to former voters of Nikki Haley since the Republican primaries to form a coalition for November.
