Romeo Beckham comes within inches of an assist his father David would be proud of and blasts a header over the bar from a YARD in an eventful debut at Brentford B, as manager Neil MacFarlane hails his “huge impact” from the bench.

Romeo Beckham had a debut to remember after coming off the bench in Brentford B’s second half comeback to beat Erith & Belvedere 3-2 from 2-1 down.

Beckham came on as a half-time substitute and came within a hair’s breadth of an impressive assist with the visitors trailing by a goal, before missing from less than a meter with a header that only found the crossbar.

With his father in attendance, Beckham made his first appearance for the Bees following his loan from Inter Miami, which has yet to give up on luring Lionel Messi to MLS at the end of his deal with PSG.

With his side looking for an equalizer in front of a record 554 Erith & Belvedere fans, Beckham took the field in the 54th minute for his first England appearance.

And in the 17th minute he came close to producing a cross reminiscent of his father, blasting a ferocious goal-facing ball towards the far post from the right wing, but the attacker couldn’t reach the end of it.

He almost grabbed the equalizer himself when attempting to grab the end of a cross into the box from the ninth division team, but could only find the crossbar with little room or equalization to get behind the ball after a bounce off the woodwork.

The goal finally came in the closing stages of the game, after the visitors scored their third from a deflected shot to win it at the end of the London Senior Cup.

However, the father of Beckham’s former England captain faced the ignominy of jumping over a fence and running through the undergrowth to escape a growing crowd of fans during the game.

And the 20-year-old received much praise from Brentford B boss Neil MacFarlane, who hailed the impact of the loan from the bench.

“We were at the forefront through Max Dickov, Romeo (Beckham), Kyreece (Lisbie), Byron (Wilson), they all had a huge impact, J’Neil (Bennett) also when he changed position,” MacFarlane said after the game.

‘Romeo really pushed us forward at small forward. He created some really great moments for us with some terrific deliveries.

“He also had a chance to score and I was excited for him and the group as a whole to stay in front.” We never gave up and kept going.’
