Romelu Lukaku was shown a straight red card after a terrible tackle in Roma's gritty 1-1 draw against Fiorentina, with Jose Mourinho refusing to speak to the media after the game.

Lukaku had opened the scoring after five minutes with a precise header from close range, thanks to a perfectly placed cross from Paulo Dybala.

In the 64th minute, midfielder Zalewski received his second yellow card and was sent off, with Fiorentina equalizing two minutes later when Lucas Martinez headed in a cross from Quarta.

Three minutes before the end, Lukaku flew into a sliding tackle on Fiorentina's Christian Kouame and received a direct red card.

The Belgian striker's succession tore Kouame's sock and his dismissal meant that Mourinho's side had to finish the match with just nine men.

Roma managed to hold on to a point, but also lost Dybala and Sardar Azmoun to injuries and the two red cards for Lukaku and Zalewski in a chaotic evening.

The decision was one of a number of decisions that Mourinho was unhappy with throughout the match and shared his displeasure with the referees at the final whistle.

The Portuguese boss then left without making any statement to the media as Mourinho and the Roma players did not want to speak to anyone after the match.

Instead, Mourinho simply walked through the media zone, greeted Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano and then walked away without saying anything.

The result puts Roma in fourth place in Serie A with 25 points, followed by AC Milan in third with four points and the league leaders, Inter Milan, with 13 points.

Fiorentina were also reduced to ten men in stoppage time as Nikola Milenkovic became the third player to be shown his marching orders during the match, but boss Italiano was pleased with his side's second-half performance.

Telling DAZN: ā€œThey were only a few minutes into nine. Our whole second half was extraordinary, we tried in every possible way to get back on track after a wrong initial approach, which Roma made the most of.ā€
