Romelu Lukaku has landed in Italy as he prepares for a season-long loan transfer to Serie A giants Roma.

The Belgian is about to put pen to paper in the Italian capital after Chelsea accepted a £5 million loan offer for the striker.

Lukaku is reunited with Roma manager Jose Mourinho after the pair previously worked together during spells at Stamford Bridge and Manchester United.

The 30-year-old is expected to rediscover his best form after a difficult 12 months in which he struggled to establish a starting position at Inter Milan last season and failed to find the net at the World Cup in Qatar.

Lukaku landed on a private jet at Rome’s Ciampino airport on Tuesday afternoon and was met by enthusiastic supporters awaiting his arrival.

Dressed in a black top and black pants, the attacker waved to the fans as they cheered as he descended the plane’s steps and onto the lawn.

Cheers erupted from the crowd as he stepped out at the city’s second airport, waving, touching his chest and continuing to show appreciation for the welcome.

A beaming Lukaku interacted further with the fans as he walked through the airport’s closed outdoor areas while being followed by security and Roma representatives.

Footage shows him smiling and giving a thumbs up to fans shouting his name in a bid to get the striker’s attention.

The sought-after Chelsea star also lifted a Roma scarf over his head as he showed off his new club colours.

Lukaku is no stranger to Italian football having previously spent time with Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title two years ago while working under Antonio Conte.

A stellar campaign that season saw him score 30 goals in all competitions for Inter as they stormed to the league title.

Chelsea had planned to sell Lukaku this summer, until the Belgian turned down a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, turning down moves to Inter and Juventus.

Inter had been offered £23 million and £26 million in a permanent deal before pulling out after discovering Lukaku had spoken to Juventus.
