Romelu Lukaku revealed that a shock transfer could be on the cards much sooner than people think.
The 30-year-old has just been loaned out to Stamford Bridge for a second consecutive season, with Mauricio Pochettino unable to find a place in his squad for the striker.
The Belgian, who still has two years left on his £325,000-a-week deal at Chelsea, spent the season at Roma, scoring 21 goals in 47 games.
He signed a five-year contract with the Blues when he returned to the club in 2021 for a fee of £97.5 million from Inter Milan, but fell out of favor under Thomas Tuchel.
His future is uncertain and he has revealed that his time among Europe’s elite could soon come to an end.
Lukaku started his professional career with Anderlecht in his home country Belgium and sees a return on the horizon.
Lukaku told RTL Sports: ‘Of course. That [a return to Anderlecht] will happen. I think that will happen much sooner than people think.
The interviewer asked back, “Much sooner?”
He replied, ‘Yes. I left Belgium at the age of 18.’
Again the centre-forward was asked: ‘Do you miss it? Do you miss Belgium?’
Lukaku replied: ‘My mother, my children…’
