Roman Kemp reveals the life-changing lesson about fame he learned from his godfather George Michael

Roman Kemp has revealed the life-changing lesson he learned from his godfather, the late George Michael.

The radio host, 30, who is the son of Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp, said it wasn’t always easy being in a famous family.

Reflecting on his godfather George – who passed away in December 2016 – taking the spotlight, Roman shared how it’s not always what it should be.

He told The sun: ‘With parents who have lived through the industry and a godfather who has lived through the industry the way George Michael did, you realize that what everyone is looking for isn’t actually that great.

“Yes, money is great, but otherwise it’s just kind of boring.”

Roman said his main concern is that he spends his entire career trying to get other people to “like” him and that his real goal is to start a family.

“I don’t see life as walking the red carpet, it’s about having a family and raising kids who are nice people in the world,” he explained.

Roman also shared how one day he wants to take a step back from the spotlight to travel the world, something he hasn’t had the chance to do yet.

Speaking of his hopes to travel, he said, “I’ve never done that before. I’ve been working since I was 16 and I’ve never been allowed to do that.’

Singer George famously introduced Roman’s parents, Shirlie Holliman and Martin, and he was later named as Roman’s godfather.

Shirlie was a backup dancer for Wham! while Martin rose to fame in the 1980s with his band Spandau Ballet and his acting career on EastEnders.

Former I’m A Celebrity star Roman is very close to his parents and is a regular on Celebrity Gogglebox with his famous father Martin.
