Roma are reportedly ready to sack Jose Mourinho if his side fail to defeat Cagliari this weekend.

Having led the Giallorossi to successive European finals in his first two seasons at the Stadio Olimpico, The Special One has had a much slower start to the campaign, with his side currently sitting 13th in Serie A.

The club travel to the Sardegna Arena on Sunday to face a Cagliari side managed by fellow former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri in a clash which could prove decisive for his tenure.

According to a report from an Italian publication Corriere dello Sportclub president Dan Friedkin is ready to sack Mourinho if he fails to lead Roma to victory against the newly promoted club.

The report also suggests that Roma have already named a successor for Mourinho in case he is sacked before next week’s international break.

Mourinho had a hesitant start to the campaign in his third season in charge of the Giallorossi

Former Germany boss Hansi Flick is said to be the leading candidate for the job if Mourinho is sacked.

Former Germany boss Hansi Flick is said to be the leading candidate for the job if Mourinho is sacked.

Former Hoffenheim and Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick would be Friedkin’s first choice to lead the club if they choose to part ways with Mourinho after two years in the dugout.

Flick has been linked with a number of clubs since becoming the first coach in German national team history to be sacked after his team suffered three consecutive defeats, punctuated by a 4-1 loss to Japan in a friendly match earlier this month.

However, despite Roma’s shaky start to the campaign, any decision to part ways with Mourinho would undoubtedly sow discord among the club faithful.

In his first season in charge, Mourinho ended more than half a century of waiting for a European trophy with victory over Feyenoord in the 2022 Europa Conference League final.

Then, last season, the club reached the Europa League final for only the second time in their history before losing on penalties to Sevilla.

The former Man United boss recently revealed he turned down the chance to take charge of Saudi club Al-Hilal this summer, walking away from the most lucrative contract ever offered to a manager, reportedly worth £26 million per year.
