Were you disappointed when Disney Plus canceled? The Spiderwick Chronicles? Then this will cheer you up: the series has found a new home two months after Disney Plus announced it wouldn’t stream the live-action adaptation. That new home is The Roku Channel, and you’ll be able to stream the show starting in early 2024.
Here’s Roku’s head of originals, Brian Tannenbaum: “We can’t wait to introduce this beautifully crafted series, created by a world-class creative team, to millions of streamers.”
It’s good news for fantasy fans, as the show was one of the casualties of Disney Plus’ cost-cutting, which resulted in the cancellation of several popular shows – although in most cases people were able to watch at least some before the ax fell. This show was different because while the main films were completed, the show was never streamed.
What are the Spiderwick Chronicles?
The series is based on the popular children’s book series by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. It is a coming of age story about the Grace family, who move from New York to the family’s childhood home in Michigan. And when they get there, they discover that their great-grandfather’s estate is much more mysterious than just a pile of junk and some mysterious jars of screws in a garage: there’s a whole secret and fantastic world for them to explore.
We were very surprised by Disney’s decision not to show The Spiderwick Chronicles. As we wrote two months ago, filming for the show and another series had already been completed. Nautilus. Disney did say it was working with the production teams of both shows to find new homes, so hopefully we’ll get some good news about that Nautilus at.
