Roku has another free update to make it easy to find certain shows, and it’s ideal for Christmas

One of the things that annoys me a little about the best streaming services is that while they do their best to make it easy to find content like live sports by putting it right there on the home screen or main navigation menu, for example those of us who use the those who prefer more relaxing or practical shows still need to browse the catalogue.

Roku has decided to change that by creating two brand new home screen destinations that make it much easier to find shows and movies about cooking, home and garden improvements.

The new destinations are called All Things Food and All Things Home and will be rolled out to US customers in the coming weeks (there is no confirmation yet when these will become available to UK customers) – just in time to help you prepare for your festive feast or to to help make your home look even more beautiful during the holidays.

What are All Things Home and All Things Food?

By “destinations,” Roku means the two new sections will be right on your home screen – whether you're using one of the best TVs or the best streaming devices – for quick access. Each is a hub for all kinds of content, not just from Roku TV, but from live and linear TV, premium subscriptions, and more. It will be a mix of promoted content and personalized recommendations that will get even better over time.

For All Things Food, the available shows are organized into sections such as 'DIY Meals', 'Healthy Habits' and so on, making it much quicker to find exactly what you need, whether you're planning in advance or trying to tame a mess. belly. And All Things Home takes the same approach to home decorating, DIY and gardening, with sections like 'Home & Garden Hits', 'Home Improvement' and 'Call In The Home Experts'.

Roku isn't just doing this because it feels like it: A recent survey commissioned by the company found that nearly three in four streamers—about 73%—felt it took them too long to find new content to watch. And another 64% of streamers said that when looking for something new, they would base their search on a specific genre. The new destinations are designed to help both groups and should make it much easier to get there Great American baking show, Minced meat and much more.

All Things Food and All Things Home are now rolling out to US customers and should be available to you soon.
