Rodeo star’s wife sends desperate message to fans as son clings to life after tractor trailer accident

The stricken wife of rodeo star Spencer Wright has sent a desperate message to fans after their son Levi almost drowned in a toy tractor accident.

Levi, 3, has clung to life for more than a week after doctors feared he was left brain dead when he drove his toy tractor into a fast-flowing river in Utah.

In an update on Thursday, his mother Kallie took to Facebook to dispel fans’ theories about her son’s recovery, saying: “This has consumed us, please don’t think for a second that we haven’t completely done our homework, it’s Been non-stop!’

The family previously said they were taking the recovery ‘step by step’, with Levi undergoing a number of MRIs and scans since the tragic accident.

The tragic accident occurred on May 21 as Kallie stood outside watching Levi play on his tractor trailer. She went back to her house to check on her nine-month-old child.

When she returned moments later, Levi was nowhere to be found and she frantically dove into the raging Beaver County river to search the stream for her son.

Kallie called first responders and they found Levi about a mile downstream in the creek. He was flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Bracing for the worst, the Wrights said they planned to “discontinue care and hold him close until his last breath on earth” after doctors said he was unlikely to survive.

But two days later, a miracle happened when Levi woke from his coma on Thursday evening.

In her Facebook update, Kallie said she felt the need to tell fans about Levi’s recovery, especially to “get things off my chest.”

Spencer Wright's son Levi has been in critical condition for more than a week after driving his tractor into the Beaver River near their home in the southwestern Utah town of Milford.

“I’m going to discuss something that has been constantly brought up and that is hyberbaric chamber therapy for brain injuries,” she wrote.

‘1. Hyberbaric chamber therapy is not an option when a child like Levi is on a ventilator. He first needs to be medically stable enough to even have that option. He’s not medically stable enough to leave this place.

‘2. If he cannot breathe on his own (control his airway), a trach is needed, a device that goes through a man-made hole in the throat with a tube leading to the lungs. Now think about that!

‘In addition, he will need an NG tube (a feeding tube through his nose) and in the long term possibly a G tube which will require surgery and another man-made hole in his side.

‘3. Spencer and I have been exploring these and other therapies over the past week and what we find and feel is that for our situation, these therapies cannot get Levi to where he would be happy if they became an option at all.

“HIS happiness comes before ours, period.”

The mother concluded that although many people had given their opinions on what they should be doing, ‘please don’t think for a moment that we haven’t quite done our homework, it’s been non-stop!’

In another update the day before, she said doctors tried “to reduce sedation, but (Levi) didn’t handle it well.”

Kallie has shared a number of updates on her son’s recovery and on Sunday she wrote: ‘This is an experience, I pray deep in my soul that you never have to know how I begin to know.

‘This is a rollercoaster that you go through unintentionally and blindfolded, you don’t know what’s coming. All you have to do is wait and ride out. We take it day by day.’

She talked about the type of brain injury her son could suffer, and the uncertainties that lie ahead.

‘The term ‘brain injury’ is very broad, there are different degrees and different degrees of severity. No two brain injuries are the same, even if the accident is similar. No two brains recover or heal the same.

“There is a lot that medical professionals don’t know, but what they tell you is based on legitimate medical literature and history.”

Spencer has also spoken out to encourage fans to donate money to a boy of the same age who is being treated for sepsis caused by meningitis in the room next to Levi.

Three-year-old Taysen Baum has suffered blood clots, strokes and brain injuries as a result of the infection. His parents, like Levi’s, pray for a miracle that their son will survive.
