Robin Roberts offers update on fiancee Amber Laign’s breast cancer treatment

Robin Roberts gave an update on his fiancée Amber Laign’s battle with breast cancer in a new interview.

The 62-year-old broadcaster began a romantic relationship with the 48-year-old masseuse in 2005, long before she first came out as a lesbian in 2013.

Roberts, who was seen in a rare sighting with Laign earlier this month in New York City, sat down with ET to talk about Laign’s recovery and their wedding plans.

‘It was a difficult year; His journey with breast cancer took some unexpected twists and turns, but he’s doing really well,” Roberts revealed.

“The doctors said that when it comes to treatment, it’s like women and shoes, they don’t always fit her right, so they had to find the right fit for her with treatment,” he clarified.

While Laign was having a hard time with chemotherapy, Laign’s prognosis is now “excellent,” adding that Laign is “ready to start a new chapter as well.”

Roberts first teased her wedding to Laign in January, in an interview clip with Gabby Bernstein.

“I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet…I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage,” Roberts said in the video.

‘We are getting married this year. It was something we had talked about, but we put it off, she got sick, but it’s her saying yes to that, and the next chapter,” Roberts said at the time.

Roberts didn’t share much about the ceremony, but revealed: “It’s happening this year. We have a date in mind. Date reminders will be out soon.

“I am proud to speak of [it]I am going to be a married woman. Our families are very excited [and] save the dates [are] It’s coming out soon,” he added.

‘Amber is my person after 18 years and so when Gabby Bernstein was asking me about her at the beginning of the year, I raised my hand. [and] I said, ‘No, I’m thinking about marriage, I’m not just looking to have a wedding day.’ I’m looking at the union,’ she said.

“It’s so exciting to know that I’ve been with this person for 18 years and we’re still excited and we still want to be together and we still want to start this new chapter together,” Roberts added of their couple. .

Prognosis: While Laign was having a difficult time with chemotherapy, Laign’s prognosis is now “excellent,” adding that Laign is “ready to start a new chapter as well.”

He was doing the interview to promote the second season of his Disney Plus series Turning the Tables, which premieres on March 15.

She recently won a Daytime Emmy for the first season, which she called “unexpected and pure” joy.

“I know people say it’s an honor to be nominated [but] it really went to our group to be considered for an Emmy. But then to win? Oh, my kids got on that stage… But that’s what Turning the Tables is all about,” Roberts said.

“It’s not just the women you see on camera, but these dynamic young women at the United Nations behind the scenes. So I was really happy for them too,” she added.

One of the season two guests is Brooke Shields, and Roberts added that she was particularly surprised with his conversation with her.
