Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, November 2

Mail Sport’s racing expert Robin Goodfellow gives his tips for Saturday’s meetings at Wetherby, Newmarket, Ayr, Southwell and Ascot.

With Nigel Twiston-Davies’ stable still in good form, MASTER CHEWY (Ascot 2.05, nb) looks capable of giving weight to all his rivals after an impressive novice chase campaign last season.

The progressive seven-year-old was only hit on the head in a Grade One at Aintree last season and can challenge the top weight as Tom Bellamy retains the ride. Later, HIGHSTAKESPLAYER (Ascot 3.45, nap) appears to have strong claims with conditions to suit Ascot. Having won all four chases last season when right-handed, he was a cozy winner at Kempton in his final race in April, on a score of 130.

A 5lb increase on Saturday underestimates him and he could make a winning comeback for trainer Tom Lacey.

CHRIS BAKER’S WIZARD OF OPPORTUNITIES

1.07 NEWMARKET: DASHING DICK is a regular at Newmarket and seems to have ideal conditions. He will enjoy the drying ground and can build on his recent second place finish at Yarmouth.

2.17 NEWMARKET: The David Menuisier-trained TRIBAL CHIEF has won his last three races and four in total since being neutered. He arrives in top form and can brave the step up in class.

4.00 NEW MARKET: MADAME DE SEVIGNE won a class three race over Saturday’s course and distance last month. She’ll take some beating in this lower bracket, with Apprentice Champion Sean D. Bowen claiming 3 pounds.

7.41 DEL MAR: Three consecutive victories, including a dominant Grade One success at Saratoga, make COGBURN (NAP) a formidable contender in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.

9.01 DEL MAR: REBEL’S ROMANCE can win the Breeders’ Cup Turf for the second time. He was successful at Keeneland in 2022 and has completed five more races since then, including three prestigious International Group Ones.

11.45 DEL MAR: The 2,000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner NOTABLE SPEECH can bounce back from his defeat in France, with Saturday’s ground conditions certainly suiting his explosive foot movement.
