The boyfriend of a mother who beat her little girl to death when she refused to put on her pajamas could soon be out of jail despite helping her cover up the sick crime

  • Robert Smith could be out of prison in April
  • He was convicted of the involuntary manslaughter of a six-year-old boy.

A man who helped cover up the gruesome death of a girl could soon be out of jail.

Robert Smith is currently serving a maximum sentence of 16 years for manslaughter and for being an accessory to the murder of six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams in 2010.

He was jailed in 2013 along with Keisha’s mother, Kristi Abrahams, who was convicted of her daughter’s murder.

Kiesha died in bed at her Mt Druit home in western Sydney, after she was knocked unconscious by her mother when she refused to put on her pajamas.

The couple did not seek medical help after Kiesha was beaten, instead putting her in the shower and then on her bed, where she died.

Abrahams and Smith then hid the girl’s body in a suitcase in a cupboard for five days before taking her to the Shalvey bush in western Sydney.

The schoolgirl was doused with gasoline and set on fire before being buried.

But a private meeting held two weeks ago by the New South Wales State Probation Authority has formed the intent to release Smith on parole.

Six-year-old Keisha Abrahams died at her home in Hebersham in 2010 after her mother, Kristi, knocked her unconscious.

Depending on the outcome of an April 4 public hearing, Smith could be released from jail on April 24, a current affair revealed Thursday.

The announced parole intent grant is based on a report from the Serious Offender Review Board and the corrections community.

The State Probation Authority will accept submissions from Kiesha’s family and the New South Wales government at the hearing, which is open to anyone from the public.

Based on the filings and a previous hearing held in February, the State Parole Authority will decide whether to grant Smith parole.

Kiesha became a household name after Abrahams and Smith reported her missing in August 2010.

Abrahams initially said he had put Keisha to bed at her Hebersham home around 9:30pm, but that she had disappeared the next morning.

Abrahams called the police to tell them her daughter was missing, prompting an extensive search in Sydney’s western suburbs that drew nationwide attention.

Keisha’s mother, Kristi Abrahams (pictured) made emotional appeals after reporting her daughter missing.

Kiesha Abrahams became a familiar face after her mother and Smith reported her missing in August 2010.

Abrahams and Smith made emotional pleas at the time, but police were unconvinced by their story and a lengthy murder investigation followed.

Eight months after Kiesha was reported missing, police arrested Abrahams and Smith in 2011.

Abrahams was charged with murder after human remains were discovered in the bushes of Mt Druitt on what would have been Kiesha’s seventh birthday.

Abrahams was jailed for 22 years and Smith was jailed for a minimum of 12 years and a maximum of 16 years at his 2013 sentencing.
