He tweeted: ‘UPDATE!!! Southwest got me home on time! Because our baby decided that IT WASN’T TIME TO GO OUT YET.

‘We are home and enjoying the other kind of fireworks of 2023. Baby Girl must have known that mommy and daddy have never spent a New Years apart. GOD KNEW where he had to be.’

Grete’s date tweeted Griffin’s tweet with an update of her own, posting: ‘Baby said SIKE! Thank you all for the sweet messages, but as of now, I’m still pregnant and couldn’t be more grateful to @RGIII for taking the first flight home. My hero!!!!’

Griffin’s big escape added another layer of drama to the thrilling game in which TCU upset No. 2 seed Michigan to set up a final showdown against Georgia.
