Robert Griffin III returns to broadcast duties after leaving the Fiesta Bowl in the middle of the game after being told his wife was going into labor … as the former Baylor quarterback calls Cotton Bowl on ESPN

Robert Griffin III returned to broadcast Monday after (understandably) abandoning his Fiesta Bowl duties on New Year’s Eve, as he called a thrilling Cotton Bowl between USC and Tulane.

Working on ESPN as part of their “Field Pass with The Pat McAfee Show” coverage on Saturday, Griffin abruptly ran off after being told his pregnant wife was in labor.

And he was back in the air from Arlington, Texas on Monday when Tulane erased a 15-point deficit with just 4:30 remaining in the game to win 46-45.

Despite his moment of panic during the Fiesta Bowl, Griffin’s wife, Grete, is still pregnant, she confirmed Sunday.

‘TO UPDATE!!! Southwest got me home on time! Because our baby decided IT WASN’T TIME TO GO OUT YET,” he tweeted.

‘We are home and enjoying the other kind of fireworks of 2023. Baby Girl must have known that mommy and daddy have never spent a New Years apart. GOD KNEW where he had to be.’

But the presenter has since revealed that his wife, Estonian heptathlete Grete Griffin, is still pregnant.

Grete’s date tweeted Griffin’s tweet with an update of her own, posting: ‘Baby said SIKE!

‘Thank you all for the sweet messages, but as of now, I’m still pregnant and couldn’t be more grateful to @RGIII for taking the first flight home. My hero!!!!’

The former Baylor and Washington NFL quarterback was able to call up an exciting contest Monday when Tulane scored the go-ahead touchdown with just nine seconds remaining in the contest.

The victory, over No. 8 USC, gave the Green Wave a 12-win season and gives them a chance to place in the top 10 in the final standings.
