Critics Choice Awards 2024: Robert Downey Jr. cuddles up to wife Susan on red carpet… before he wins Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer

Robert Downey Jr. looked pretty dapper when he hit the red carpet at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards.

The 58-year-old actor hit the red carpet with his wife of 19 years and production partner Susan Downey at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

Just after hitting the red carpet, Downey won Best Supporting Actor for his work in Oppenheimer, following his big win at the Golden Globes.

Downey Jr. defeated Sterling K. Brown (American fiction), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), Ryan Gosling (Barbie), Charles Melton (May December) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things) as Critics Choice winner.

He first acknowledged fellow nominee Sterling K. Brown, adding, “I think Bob, Ryan, Charles and Mark Sterling will welcome K. into the mix. Another challenger has entered the octagon.”

He continued, “I was thinking this morning, I love critics. It’s all I think about: critics’ choice. They really give me such great feedback,” he said to laughter from the audience.

“So many great moments and some of them closer than I can get. –Poetic. I want to share with you some of their thoughts over the years. The first one is a bit like haiku,” he said.

‘Sloppy, messy and lazy. The next metaphorical, like Pee Wee Herman waking up from a coma. This one from a Britt, a puzzling waste of talent,” he continued as the audience laughed.

“And finally he got stuck in this one, amusing as a fart in a bed,” he added, before acknowledging his “Oppenhomies.”

“Yes, I want to say to my housemates, every day of filming was like having my ego handed to me at the door,” he said.

‘It couldn’t have happened to a nicer man. I had to thank Chris and Emma and Cillian for that. My British sister Emily Blunt. My scene partner. Thank you Universal,” he said.

I want to say that I have commentary 24 hours a day. It’s like Siskel and Ebert. Susan Downey and my publicist. I hope they did a better job this time, I guess. “I’ll hear it,” he concluded.
