Actor Robert De Niro lent his voice to the Biden campaign for a new ad claiming former President Donald Trump “snapped” after losing the 2020 race.
On Friday, the Biden campaign said the 30-second spot was intended to remind voters of Trump’s “tumultuous presidency,” and then his decline into “the unhinged, power-hungry candidate he is today.”
A source familiar with the spot’s creation told DailyMail.com that De Niro was shown the ad with a generic voiceover and less than 24 hours later he told the campaign he loved it and shot it with his distinctive voice.
“From late-night tweets to drinking bleach, tear gassing citizens and staging a photo op, we knew Trump was spiraling out of control when he was president,” De Niro said in the ad. “Then he lost the 2020 election and he snapped.”
Scenes from January 6 played on the screen in which De Niro said Trump was “desperately trying to hold on to power.”

“From late-night tweets to drinking bleach to gassing citizens to staging a photo op, we knew Trump was spiraling out of control when he was president,” De Niro said in the 30-second spot.
“Now he’s on the run again, this time threatening to become a dictator and end the constitution,” the actor continued.
The ad cuts to a clip of Trump in which the ex-president said, “If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath.”
The “carnage” comment was originally made as Trump stoked fears that China would build cars in Mexico, which could eat away at the U.S. auto industry.
The former president has told his supporters he would be their “retribution” if he runs for the White House for a third time.
“Trump wants revenge, and he will do anything to get it,” De Niro said in closing the ad.
The campaign will be seen on television and digital platforms in the battleground states and on cable.
De Niro’s language echoes what President Joe Biden has said about Trump during his campaign in recent days.
The 30-second ad showed former President Donald Trump’s infamous photo opportunity with a Bible across the street from the White House after Black Lives Matter protesters were tear-gassed to clear the way for the president and his aides.
At campaign events this weekend in Atlanta and Detroit, Biden said Trump “got it.”
“He’s not just obsessed with losing in 2020, he’s clearly unhinged,” the president said Saturday evening at a behind-closed-doors fundraiser in Atlanta.
De Niro’s involvement comes as the campaign has made Hollywood more involved.
A massive fundraiser is planned in Los Angeles next month with George Clooney and Julia Roberts.
The A-listers are joined by former President Barack Obama.
A day after appearing in the White House briefing room earlier this month, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill sent out a plea to raise money on behalf of the 2024 campaign.
De Niro has long been a supporter of Biden and other Democrats — and attended the glitzy state dinner with Japan last month with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
In the past, he has called Trump “pure evil,” said the Republican was a “total monster” and said another Trump term would be a “nightmare” for the country.
