Robert Carlyle reunites with Full Monty castmates at the UK premiere of the classic comedy spin-off series – 25 years after the film’s release

Robert Carlyle joined his Full Monty castmates at the UK premiere of the classic comedy’s Disney+ spin-off in Sheffield on Monday – 25 years after the film’s release.

The actor, 62, who played Gaz in the 1997 film, looked casual in a white sports jacket worn over a black T-shirt and jeans.

The original cast has reunited for the follow-up series that follows the gang as they continue to navigate life in the post-industrial city of Sheffield.

Written by the film’s screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, the show charts what happened to the group after they donned their gear again, following their famous striptease in the original film.

Also at the event was GOT’s Mark Addy, 58, who returns to his role as the hapless Dave Horsefall.

The actor beamed as he stepped onto the red carpet in a blue denim shirt that he paired with a dark tailored suit.

Robert’s character Gaz will deal with fatherhood as he tries to connect with his daughter in the latest trailer released last month.

The pair sit together on a hill as he tells her, “We haven’t seen each other that much in a while, maybe to make up for lost time, huh?”

Gaz also gets into a fight with Dave (Mark Eddy) after he criticizes him for being an absent father.

Gaz tells him, ‘Who the hell are you to give parenting advice? You don’t even have children.’

It is also hinted that the gang might take off their gear one more time, as Gaz is heard saying in the voiceover, “This is going to be the biggest comeback.”

The Full Monty was released to critical acclaim. For a time it was the highest-grossing film in the UK until it was later outsold by Titanic.

The film follows a group of unemployed men in 1990s Sheffield who decide to form a male striptease act in an attempt to make some money.

The episodes explore the brighter, crazier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity.

The show is directed by Andrew Chaplin and Catherine Morshead and co-written by Alice Nutter with Simon Lewis as series producer.

One actor who won’t be returning is Hugo Speer, who was suspended from the show after allegedly inviting a woman into his trailer while she was completely naked during the film.
