Robbie Williams and Ayda Field share their devastation over heartbreaking death of both of their dogs on the SAME night and say double tragedy marks the ‘closing of a huge chapter’

Robbie Williams and Ayda Field are devastated by a double tragedy in their family: both dogs died on the same night.

On Thursday, the 50-year-old pop legend and his 45-year-old American actress wife announced on Instagram that their beloved dogs Poupette and Walle had died together in bed. The loss marks “the end of a great chapter.”

In a lengthy caption, Ayda explained how Poupette had been a part of her life for 18 years. She was her companion animal before she met the former Take That star, after which they became a ‘mixed’ canine family a few years later and Walle was introduced.

Ayda spoke about their final moments and how Poupette and Walle, who served as bridesmaids and witnesses at the couple’s wedding in 2010, died while listening to Abba’s Dancing Queen ‘surrounded by enormous love’.

Alongside a series of images of the dogs, Ayda wrote: ‘Today our dogs Poupette & Walle left this planet to start an adventure in an infinite galaxy far, far away. They died together in bed, listening to ‘Dancing Queen’, surrounded by immense love.’

She went on to share the backstory of their four-legged friends: ‘For those who don’t know Poupette and Walle, here’s some background information… Poupette has been with me for 18 years.

‘From the day we met, she was my soulmate. I was a single girl, and suddenly, with Poupette, I was a ‘single mom’:)

‘Everyone who knows me called Poupette ‘my shadow’…because wherever I went, she was always behind me. It’s strange how you can share so much with a being who can’t communicate in the same language. But that’s the beauty of unconditional love…it doesn’t need words.

‘When I met Rob 6 months later I told him that Poupette and I were a package deal. Rob had 3 large dogs at the time and I assumed he would balk at the idea of taking a small, white, fluffy dog down the street shouting ‘Poupette’ in a Northern English accent.

‘But Rob immediately fell in love with her and suddenly the big tattooed pop star… turned into a small, fluffy dog.

‘When things got serious a year later, we decided to expand our family and get a dog together.’

Speaking about how Walle came into their lives, Ayda said: ‘There was no doubt when we met Walle, this was the boy for us. He hugged us, kissed us and ran after us everywhere. From that day on, July 4th, we officially became a blended family:)

‘2 years later, when Rob & I decided to tie the knot, we knew exactly who we wanted for our bridal party… our dogs. Poupette was, of course, my maid of honor and Walle was Rob’s best man.

‘Poupette and Walle have been present over the years at the birth of our four children, on several tours, in different countries and through all the ups and downs that life has brought us in the past 14 years since we said ‘yes’.

‘As time went by, we had to say goodbye to each of those bridesmaids and groomsmen with sadness… Miraculously, Poupette and Walle persevered.

‘Rob and I recently renewed our wedding vows. There are a lot of things we are dealing with right now (more on that later) and we wanted to celebrate what was good in our lives; family and love.

‘Just like 14 years ago… Poupette was my bridesmaid and Walle was Rob’s friend.’

The star added that the dogs “persevered” in preparation for the couple’s big day because they “really needed them.”

She continued, “I think they were just waiting to be there for ‘mommy’ and ‘daddy’ when we really needed them.

“Today marks the end of one big chapter. For the first time in 18 years I will not have ‘my shadow’ or my little furry best friends to greet me at the door. The sadness may be hard to understand for anyone who has never had a pet they loved.

“I assume these words are not for you. But for those of you who have had a furry bestie, a soulmate like Poupette or Walle, who you have lost… I offer my tearful hug. I hope it helps.”

The mother of four concluded her heartbreaking message with: ‘Poupette and Walle. You have watched me grow from a girl to a woman and have supported me throughout my adult life. I love you with all my heart. May you rest and play together forever and tell me all about it when I see you again.’

The post was met with an outpouring of condolences from fans and showbiz friends.

The family tragedy comes just weeks after Robbie revealed he and Ayda secretly renewed their wedding vows after 14 years of marriage.

The singer, who has four children with his wife, posted a bizarre post on Instagram earlier this month in which he also revealed the downsides of his new teeth.

At the bottom of his lengthy statement, in which he discussed everything from the Olympics to jet lag, Robbie said: ‘Oh, Ayda and I have renewed our vows.’

Before I continue adding: ‘I am very very very grateful. I am grateful now. I am not in the future, tired and stressed. I am grateful here and now’.

He also explained that his new, temporary teeth grinders, after years of “abuse” of his natural teeth, had left him unable to continue his favorite activity.
