Robbie Savage fought back tears live on BT Sport after watching his son Charlie score his first senior football goal.

Manchester United sent the 19-year-old on loan to League One battling Forest Green Rovers in January to ensure he had more field time as part of his development.

The youngster made his fifth appearance for Duncan Ferguson’s side on Saturday when hosting Bristol Rovers and scored in the 12th minute of the game, which his father quickly spotted on the BT scoreboard.

Savage, who was on duty for BT Sport Score, a live program that records league scores, couldn’t help but celebrate after seeing the news of his son’s goal.

Savage whooped with delight as viewers received an update on Leicester’s clash with Chelsea and was soon overwhelmed with emotion.

The camera instantly panned to Savage and he was asked, ‘What happened?’ To which he replied: ‘Yeah! My boy has scored!

Savage was then seen punching the air with his fist while saying: ‘My boy. Come on. go my boy Yeah! What a goal too. I just saw him go up. My son. Wow.’

Asked by host Jules Breach how he was feeling, Savage said: ‘Wow, that’s emotional.

‘That’s class man. After everything that has happened too. Wow. I am very proud of him. I love that Continue.’

Charlie’s goal gave Forest Green the lead after just 12 minutes when he found the back of the net with a left-footed shot.

It wasn’t enough to secure victory for Forest Green, however, as Bristol Rovers came from behind to beat Ferguson’s side 3–1.

As a result, Forest Green find themselves bottom of League One, having failed to secure a win in their last 15 games.

However, Savage remains immensely proud of his son, who made his United senior debut in a Champions League game against Young Boys in December 2021.

Speaking about comments at the time of that match, Savage said: “Coming on for Manchester United is Charlie Savage for Juan Mata. Wow. I never thought I’d say those words.

‘What a proud day for my son. All the hard work. What a day for me, his mother, his nana, his grandparents and most importantly Charlie Savage. I’m so proud of him, Darren. It’s an incredible moment for him.
