Rob Brydon reveals the long-awaited Gavin and Stacey finale will ‘wrap up’ all of the show’s storylines after THAT proposal cliffhanger

Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon has revealed that the show’s highly anticipated Christmas finale will ‘conclude’ all the show’s long-running storylines.

The iconic BBC comedy returns on Christmas Day for its final ever episode, with fans hoping to see the outcome of the dramatic cliffhanger.

Speaking on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Davina McCall, who stands in for Amanda Holden, Rob admitted that he and much of the cast are yet to see the full script for the festive special.

Creators James Corden and Ruth Langsford confirmed last month that the finale script had been completed, with BBC bosses recently saying that even they have yet to see the story for the final episode, fearing it could leak.

When questioned about the upcoming episode, Rob jokingly joked, “After they read it, they were very sensitive about Bryn’s funeral! I was worried I wouldn’t be in it, but they have a lot of flashbacks!’

In a serious tone, the comic added, “You know what, I know some of the things that happen, but I don’t think any of the cast have seen the script yet.

“They told me one or two little bumps had happened, and I think that’s about it.”

Rob is expected to reprise his role as Stacey’s beloved Uncle Bryn in the comedy, with fans hoping they will finally learn the truth about what happened on the infamous fishing trip.

James and Ruth went to such lengths to prevent leaks that they didn’t even let BBC comedy director Jon Petrie read the completed script.

In an effort to prevent plot details from spoiling the sitcom’s one-off finale, the writing pair, who also star in the show, have only shown the script to a “very, very small circle.”

And even Petrie didn’t make it, despite commissioning the episode as the BBC’s big draw for this year’s Christmas programme.

“I honestly still haven’t seen the script, James and Ruth aren’t letting us look at it yet,” he said during the BBC’s comedy showcase on Tuesday.

“What I think is great, they’re really keeping it under wraps and don’t want people outside their very close circle to see it until they’re 100 percent sure.”

Petrie said the real challenge will come when filming begins because it has such a high-profile show and recognizable cast that people at the filming locations will be able to recognize them.

“I think it will be difficult when they film it because it is such a huge show and everyone wants to watch it, everyone in all the locations where it is shot, it will be obvious what is being shot,” he said.

“I guess you have to take it as a compliment that it means so much to so many people.”

Despite not having seen the script, Jon said James and Ruth came up with a “brilliant idea and story.”

James and Ruth reunited to write the closely guarded new script after the former Late, Late Show host returned to Britain after eight years in Los Angeles.

Lead characters Mathew Horne, 45, and Joanna Page, 47, will return, alongside series regulars Rob Brydon, 59, Alison Steadman, 77, and Larry Lamb, 76.

The Bafta-winning comedy originally aired for three seasons between May 2007 and January 2010, returning with a special episode on Christmas Day 2019.

A ratings hit for the BBC, a whopping 18.49 million people watched the episode which ended with Ruth’s Nessa professing her love for Corden’s Smithy and getting down on one knee.

It was the most watched scripted program of the decade and left fans wanting more when the episode ended before Smithy’s response.
