An Australian tradie who held a sign on the side of a highway warning of an approaching speed camera has been hailed as a ‘legend’ by motorists in his area.
The man was pictured in Werribee, West Melbourne, this weekend, wearing a bright orange vest and holding a sign that read ‘Beware of Camera’.
He won praise from dozens of drivers after a photo of him on the side of the Princess Highway near Sneydes Road was shared on social media.
“With a serious expression he waves at passing cars, giving fellow motorists a warning with his silent gesture,” the photo captioned.
“Whether seen as a useful warning or a controversial act, his presence adds an interesting dynamic to the daily commute.”
Several people quickly identified the man as ‘Darryl’ and revealed it wasn’t the first time he pulled out the homemade sign.
“He’s actually a tradie in the city. He’s tired of getting fined for driving two miles down the road,” one said.
“Definitely a bloody Australian legend,” wrote a second.

“God’s work,” a third agreed.
“He needs about ten beers,” wrote another admirer.
“We’ve all gotten a ticket for going three or four miles in a camouflaged car… GOOD FOR HIM,” said another.
Some said the man’s sign was more effective at stopping people from speeding than cellphone speed cameras or fines.
“Honestly, he’s as helpful as the speed camera at slowing people down,” said one.
