The moment a cyclist was hit by a car before his bike was dragged 100 meters away has been captured on a dashcam.

Police were called to Pakenham, in Melbourne, at 6.40am on Thursday after receiving reports that a cyclist had been injured in an apparent collision.

The 59-year-old man from Pakenham was driving on Douglas St when a white 2008-2017 Mitsubishi Lancer passed by.

The car seemed to swerve and drives straight towards the cyclist

A police spokesman said the car came to a stop, allowing the cyclist to pass before the driver appeared to accelerate toward the rider, slightly ascending the curb and then struck the cyclist.

The cyclist fell off the road and ended up on the road with bruises and abrasions, while the car dragged his bike more than 100 meters.

Investigators said the car was last seen traveling northwest through the intersection of Douglas St and Heatherton Rd.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing to the public for information after dashcam footage and photos of the incident have been released.
