Rise of the moonfluencers! How pagan lunar worship has reached a new generation of followers thanks to TikTok – with big names such as Kate Moss and Holly Willoughby cashing in on the hype

Kate Moss used to be known as much for her hard partying as for her dazzling success as a model.

But these days, the ’90s hellraiser, who was known for pulling all-nighters and hanging out with equally hardcore friends, has brought more balance to her life — in a somewhat unexpected way.

Her healthier habits include some little-known activities, including moon bathing and charging her crystals during certain periods during the moon cycle.

And while these activities may sound a little unconventional, they are becoming increasingly popular, thanks in no small part to a growing number of moon influencers.

These influencers often share the spiritual practices they find helpful through TikTok videos, where they discuss topics such as how they will celebrate the full moon, and which crystals are most effective when it comes to warding off negative energy.

And while they may seem like very alternative activities, a number of celebrities, such as Holly Willoughby and Kate Moss, have spoken openly about incorporating such rituals into their lives.

It might seem an unlikely direction for someone like supermodel Kate, and at odds with many of her previous lifestyle choices.

The 49-year-old, born in Croydon, was plucked from obscurity and thrust into the spotlight after being discovered at the age of 14.

Since then, she has had tremendous success, with her modeling and other gigs, including her role as creative director for Diet Coke.

Now, several years after swapping north London for the Cotswolds, she is launching wellness brand Cosmoss, described as ‘self-care created for life’s modern journeys’.

And as part of her own self-care regimen, the mother-of-one appears to have incorporated ‘moon rituals’ into her life – including the Ayurvedic practice of moon bathing.

She discussed the moon rituals she has incorporated into her life during a recent interview with the Sunday Times.

In addition to moon bathing, where she “lies under the light of the moon to absorb moon energy,” she also charges her crystals when the moon is full.

Ever party-loving supermodel Kate Moss (pictured) has revealed she engages in a number of spiritual activities, including charging crystals at certain points during the moon cycle

She explained, “I put all my crystals on a tray and put them outside in the garden. Just cleanse the crystal, charge the crystals.”

The model also revealed that her favorite crystals contain rose quartz, which is representative of love and compassion.

Additionally, she loves melanite, which is said to improve physical well-being, including endurance and longevity. She has described the stone as ‘really powerful’.

Interest in the moon is not new; Ancient civilizations worshiped the moon and thought that because the moon controls the tides and because humans are 60 percent water, it must also have some control over us.

But this belief, known as the moon effect, is often dismissed. However, in recent years, more and more people have turned to the power of the moon.

Some people interested in moon rituals use them as a kind of vision board, believing that the power of the moon can be harnessed to help manifest their desires.

Holly Willoughby (pictured) even has her own wellness brand called Wylde Moon, where she blogs about what she does during the full moon

The book Luna, published in 2020, written by Tamara Driessen, discusses these types of topics.

Tamara became interested in the moon after experiencing burnout and a breakup, which prompted her to spend time in Bali studying shamanic practices.

She has previously said, “If you look at the sky, you see the moon in different stages; there are eight in total.

‘It all starts with the new moon, a time when we feel more introspective, calmer and have less energy.

‘When the moon gets more light on it, our energy starts to build up. It slowly builds up to the full moon, which is the peak of our energy.

‘Once people start observing the phases of the moon, they may start to see a pattern.

They may realize that they often experience more stress in their lives during the full moon, and parents often notice that their children are more lively then too.’

TV presenter Holly Willoughby has spoken about how she made the most of the full moon.

After launching her own lifestyle brand Wylde Moon in 2021, she shared a photo and video of herself lighting a candle in the moonlight, wishing readers a “Happy Full Moon” and telling fans how she pays close attention to the moon cycle.

Holly shared in a video how she lights candles around the full moon and allows “familiar feelings and energies” into her life for the next moon cycle.

She said: “It was a big day today at Wylde Moon. The full moon behind me, a very powerful moon tonight.

“I don’t know about you, I didn’t sleep very well last night, I had all these weird dreams about being in a cave.

‘The candle was launched today and I thought this was a great moment to share with you what I do during the full moon.

“I take my candle, light it, and think about all the things that have happened over the past month that I’ve been working towards, that I’m grateful for today.

TikTokker Vial of Venus (pictured) shared her new moon ritual in a clip on the platform, revealing what she does during that point in the moon cycle

“We’re all going through strange times, so it’s nice to think of the positives.

“When the time is right, I blow out the candle and let go of all those thoughts and feelings. I know that with the next cycle of the moon I can allow new feelings and energies into her life.’

Another important part of the lunar cycle is the new moon.

TikTokker Liberty Ava Walker, a singer-songwriter with nearly half a million followers on the platform, often shares information about her spiritual practices with her fans.

In one video, she discussed what she does during the new moon, and how she uses it as an opportunity to manifest.

At the beginning of the clip, she reveals that she’s going to share “some cool things” she’ll do during the new moon with her mom “who’s a witch.”

She explains that she’s sharing the video a few days before the new moon, saying this is so viewers who want to bookmark the video have time to prepare and “really think about what you want to manifest in your life.” .

She continues, “So everyone is different, but I do manifest on the full moon and I also manifest on the new moon. The last full moon was very powerful. So it was actually a pretty good time to manifest, but some people don’t like manifesting on a full moon.

‘So the new moon is a very, very good time to manifest what you want in your life. This new moon is really focused on change and bringing super good positive energy into our lives.’

Liberty then describes what she will do, which is “make a list of very specific and clear things (she wants) to manifest in (her) life.”

This, the singer-songwriter says, could be an inner feeling, such as happiness, happiness, or any other feeling.

“You have to write it down in detail as if you already have it,” she says, before going on to explain the rest of her ritual.

The TV presenter wished her followers a ‘Happy Full Moon’, showing how important her moon rituals are to her

In a video clip, Holly revealed how she lights candles around the full moon and allows ‘new feelings and energies’ into her life for the next moon cycle

‘Once I’ve written everything down… I put my crystals in the cleansing water that I usually clean them in, and then I leave the paper open (on which) I wrote everything down… and I’ I put it near the crystals so that they can recharge under the new moon.

‘Then in the morning a new beginning and of course a dance under the new moon. Just shake off any old energy or whatever I want to clear.”

Another TikTokker Vial from Venus, who has almost 25,000 followers on the platform, also shared some rituals she likes to perform during the new moon.

In her video, she explains that the first thing she likes to do is put on a veil. She then goes through a number of steps, including cleaning her space.

She continues, “I just love writing down all my feelings, intentions, and manifestations for the month…I just love sitting and meditating with my crystals.”
