Rio Ferdinand left the TNT Sports studio during Newcastle’s 1-1 draw against PSG in Paris on Tuesday evening.

Ferdinand was on expert duty ahead of the match alongside former Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas – and the pair were joined at one point by Shay Give – but Ferdinand was unable to stay for the entire match due to “unforeseen circumstances”, according to host Laura Bossen.

However, Woods quickly acted to reassure fans about the former Manchester United star’s situation.

Woods issued a brief statement after the match, when talk had turned to United’s clash with Galatasaray tomorrow night, saying of Ferdinand: ‘Rio would be here right now talking about Manchester United but we had to let him go. [due to] unforeseen circumstances.

‘He’s fine. Do not worry.’
