Ring’s new indoor camera can see into every nook and cranny
Smart home brand Ring has unveiled a new tilting camera – and no, we don’t mean it gets angry. It’s called the Pan-Tilt Indoor Cam and has a 1080p lens that sits atop a motorized base. The base can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and rotate 169 degrees upwards.
According to a Ring representative, you can control how the engine turns through the official app. Ring believes the indoor camera is a good choice for business owners who want to see multiple angles from one location, and for people who want to keep an eye on their pets.
It also boasts several features seen on other Ring models (and competing devices like Psync Camera Genie S). When the pan-tilt camera detects someone moving in front of the lens, it alerts you via your smartphone with real-time motion alerts. Owners can then talk to the other person (or yell at their dog to get off the couch) thanks to Two-Way Talk, as the device includes a built-in microphone and speaker for communication. Additionally, you can minimize the live video feed via Picture-in-Picture mode, so you can watch while browsing the web on your phone.
Covering your blind spots
Ring technically already has a motorized camera available. The Stick Up Cam Battery can be equipped with a special pan-tilt mount that offers similar panoramic capabilities, although this new model differentiates itself in several ways. For starters, it has a greater range of motion; the holder can move up to 117 degrees vertically. Second, the pan-tilt camera has a privacy shutter. Closing it will automatically turn off video recording and audio connectivity. You can also adjust the device’s privacy settings through the Ring app.
When asked about other notable features, Ring’s representative confirmed that the Pan-Tilt camera supports color night vision and needs to be plugged into a wall socket. Battery packs are not allowed. The total package includes a 3-meter USB-A to USB-C power cable with a matching adapter.
Subscribe to a Ring Protect subscription unlocks additional features such as Multi-Cam Live View. This allows you to view up to four different Live View streams from other Ring cameras on your smartphone or tablet.
Pre-orders for the Pan-Tile Indoor Cam are currently live with a price tag of $79.99 on Ring’s official website and Amazon. The ship date for the device varies depending on the color you receive. Your standard black and white models will ship from May 30th. But deliveries for the Starlight White, Charcoal Gray and Blush Pink options won’t start until June 12.
