Rihanna fans voice disappointment in singer’s second single from Wakanda Forever soundtrack

“No other Rihanna ballad!” seemed to be the consensus of the pop star’s fans when she released her second ballad in less than a month.

On Friday, the Bajan singer, 34, dropped another single from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, Born Again.

Members of her “navy” fan base wasted no time taking to Twitter to express their dismay that the tune isn’t upbeat.

On Thursday morning, a user named Jesus Sanchez appeared on the app to say, “Hopefully it’s not a new ballad” after Pop Crave announced that a new song was coming.

And someone else used an old photo of a defeated-looking Mindy Kaling in The Office and said, “I’m going to sit down to listen to a second Rihanna ballad in a row.”

Born Again follows Lift Me Up, another slow song, released last month ahead of the sequel’s November 11 premiere.

After its October 28 debut, diehard Rihanna listeners were left to find that the new music—her first solo single in six years—was dismal.

Fans seemed to largely agree, with another follower joining in to add: “rihanna with another ballad lord SHELVE IT.”

Toronto-based DJ Peter Kash lamented online, “I wish Rihanna’s new song had a beat. I like acoustic ballad Rihanna, but I miss Work Pon De Replay We Found Love Rihanna.’

Another critic added: “No more Rihanna ballads. Please for the love of God.’

RiRi sent her into a frenzy several weeks ago when she teased the album cover for Lift Me Up.

The mum-of-one wrote in the caption of the October post: “Tonight…MIDNIGHT EST. #Lift me.’

The artwork for the single was a close-up grayscale image of the Bajann musician with wavy hair around her face.

She wore shimmery eyeshadow on her lids and her shapely pout was covered in matte lipstick.

The song debuted at #2 on the singles charts for the tracking week October 28 through November 3, according to Billboard.

According to Pitchforkthe longtime entertainer wrote the tune with music artist Tems, producer Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler.

A press release said the piece was created “as a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman.”

The late Boseman shocked fans when he died in 2020, after keeping his battle with colon cancer private.

Rihanna is scheduled to appear on the NFL’s 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February, but recently said she’s not ready to release any new music other than her two new singles.
