Manchester City teenager Rico Lewis had to try to ignore being hit by a lighter thrown by the crowd at Burnley on Friday to help his team secure a 3-0 win.
The 18-year-old defender was struck by the object as he was on the ground following a fight with Burnley’s Connor Roberts at the corner flag in the first half.
It was an unsavory and potentially dangerous moment, but Lewis said he should try to put it aside to concentrate on the action.
“It was just something I was dealing with at the time. When you’re in the game, you can’t really focus on it,” said Lewis.
“It’s just an incident that’s a shame it happened to me, but it happens to a lot of players, which is not a good thing.

The 18-year-old defender was also able to continue playing at Turf Moor as City won 3-0
‘But you can’t really do much about it. You just have to ignore and it will be solved at the end of the game.’
Lewis cried out after being hit, but did not require medical attention.
Burnley said in a statement: “This is unacceptable. The person responsible has been identified and removed from the ground. Anyone found guilty of throwing rockets into the stadium will be suspended.’
While Pep Guardiola has ruled out a repeat of last season’s Treble, his youngest player is optimistic about trying to win it all again.
“Firstly, we are very happy because we got what we needed, which is three points,” he said.
“If they come here to a side like Burnley, where they’ve just been promoted, they’re going to have fire in their guts to get off the ground, so we’re really happy.
“The goal is to win the Treble again, to win the Quadruple. Winning once is not good enough, so we have to try to win it again.’
Lewis was replaced by new £78 million City signing Josko Gvardiol at Turf Moor
