Ricky Hatton shows off sewn-up hand after ‘serious operation’ amid Dupuytren’s disease diagnosis

Ricky Hatton has shown off his badly stitched hand after having a ‘serious operation’ as a result of having Dupuytren’s disease.

The former professional boxer, 44, took to Instagram on Tuesday to show off his hand injury while recovering from surgery, with Ricky saying it had been a “frustrating and worrying time” for him.

The athlete said that after surgery, he had not been able to hit or do pad work for 3 months, before assuring his fans that he is now fine and ‘ready to start again’ with his training.

Dupuytren’s disease [also called Dupuytren contracture] It is a painless condition in which one or more fingers are bent toward the palm of the hand.

It occurs when knots of scar tissue form in the palmar fascia, the thin layer of tissue that lies under the skin of the palm, making it tougher. These knots eventually come together to form a thick cord that pulls one or more fingers toward the palm.

This can lead to clawed fingers, making it difficult for people to perform everyday activities, such as buttoning up.

With no drugs to treat the disease and physiotherapy unable to free ‘clawed’ fingers, surgery, in which the knotted cords are removed under general anesthesia, is the main treatment.

Captioning his post, Ricky wrote: “Had a great time but can’t wait to get back in the gym with me boxers.” I had a serious operation when I contracted Dupuytren’s disease.

‘I haven’t been able to hit or pad for about 3 months. At least all of my fighters had finished their fights in the year before I had surgery.

Having said that, it has been a frustrating and worrying time for me, as you can see from my first photo. The amount of work is in such a small and complicated area in your hand and around your fingers. But ready to start again now that it’s been a relief. However, they are baby steps. [sic]’

The star also shared a photo of her hand on her heel, with the scar from the operation still visible, as well as an explanation of her condition.

His post was met with a plethora of kind messages from his followers wishing him a speedy recovery.

It comes after Ricky displayed his bandaged hand last month while attending the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards at MediaCityUK, Salford, with his girlfriend Angela Blemmings.

Ricky looked elegant in a black blazer with a floral print that he paired with matching pants, shirt and tie.

Angela looked stunning in a black velvet gown with an asymmetrical hem that highlighted her toned pins.
