Richard Wilkins reveals his worst celebrity interview ever: ‘The rudest person I have ever met’

Richard Wilkins has interviewed hundreds of celebrities – from good to bad – throughout his illustrious career.

Now the Weekend Today Entertainment Editor, 68, has revealed that the worst interview he’s ever done was with Simply Red’s frontman Mick Hucknall.

The TV presenter said the English singer, 62, refused to shake his hand and was the “rude person” he had ever interviewed.

Wilkins explained that he had met the rocker the night before and shook his hand as he presented him with a gold record at a music industry event.

While the pair seemed amicable at first, things had taken a turn for the worse the next morning when Hucknall sat down with him for an interview.

“I said, ‘Hello, Mick,’ and held out my hand. He says, “I shook your hand last night, I don’t have to do it again,” Wilkins, who worked for MTV at the time, revealed to The Sydney Morning Herald.

“He then revealed that he used to have a pretty rough time, so I don’t know if he was on a roll the night before.

“I remember my boss saying to me that day, ‘If anyone ever treats you like that again, just walk out the door.'”

It comes just days after the Channel Nine showbiz reporter relived a chilling moment with famed actor Keanu Reeves.

Wilkins shared a throwback video of the embarrassing 2021 interview as part of Dickie’s Diaries on 9Honey.

The Hollywood star shut down the veteran reporter after Wilkins admitted he didn’t understand the plot of The Matrix Resurrections, which starred 58-year-old Reeves.

Reflecting on the incident with Keanu in 2021, Wilkins said he thought he may have offended the actor with a question about the Matrix Resurrections plot.
