Richard M. Sherman dead at 95: Mary Poppins and It’s a Small World songwriter passed away due to ‘age-related illness’

Richard M. Sherman – known for writing songs for films such as Mary Poppins – died on Saturday at the age of 95.

The songwriter – who over the years collaborated with his brother Robert B. Sherman, among others – died as a result of an ‘age-related illness’ in Los Angeles at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Disney announced.

A burial will be held later this month, on Friday, May 31, at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.

Richard is survived by his wife Elizabeth Gluck, whom he married in 1957. The two welcomed two children: Gregory and Victoria. He also shared another child, Lynda, from a previous marriage to Corrine Newman.

Over the course of his lengthy career, Sherman received numerous accolades, including two Oscars and three Grammy Awards.
