RICHARD EDEN: Kate Beckinsale says worrying about her mother helped with dramatic weight loss

Kate Beckinsale’s recent weight loss has left fans in stitches and now the Hollywood star has spoken out about the ‘difficult’ time she’s going through.

The 50-year-old actress spent weeks in hospital with a stress-related tear in her esophagus after her stepfather, Roy Battersby, died and her mother, Judy Loe, was diagnosed with cancer.

“I think everyone goes through difficult times in their life and we all have to deal with difficulties. I’ve been very open about that,” she tells me at the Summer Gala by Gala One at the Golf Club Saint-Tropez.

‘I have been mainly concerned with my mother and she is doing well.’

Kate, the daughter of the late Porridge star Richard Beckinsale, was disappointed by some guests who drowned her out when she tried to talk about the charity’s initiatives.

She screamed, “Since none of you are f*****g listening, I can just talk to myself.”

Ms. Beckinsale gave an impressive show at the Summer Gala earlier this week.

The Underworld and The Aviator actress looked glamorous in an elegant Raisa Vanessa gown as she posed for snaps at the event, which aims to raise money for child protection and biodiversity conservation.

Kate showed off her incredible figure in the tight black dress, which featured a plunging neckline and an oversized gold peplum.

The star teamed her look with chunky platform heels and styled her glossy brunette locks in a voluminous ’60s-inspired updo.

Kate has caused a stir on social media over the past year due to several unexplained health issues, including spending weeks in hospital and losing so much weight that fans called her “too thin.”

Earlier this month, she revealed her weight loss was due to the “stress and grief” of her stepfather’s death and her mother’s cancer diagnosis, while responding to internet trolls.

The actress hit out at some of her “asshole” followers, who told her to gain weight in the comments below an Instagram post.

After she shared a video clip of herself wearing a crop top and bikini bottoms, one follower wondered where her “butt” had gone and encouraged Kate to “do some squats.”

Another claimed her body had “shrunk,” while another insisted she “looked upset” in the video posted Monday night.

However, Kate hit back at the cruel comments, explaining that there were several reasons for her changed figure, including a six-week hospital stay.

She replied, “No, actually I watched my stepfather die in a shocking way, my mother has stage 4 cancer and I have lost a lot of people due to stress and grief…

‘Very soon after that I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus, causing me to vomit huge amounts of blood and I had difficulty eating…

‘And I just worked really hard to make a movie that was really poignant, because it had the theme of my father’s death in it. So I don’t really care what you think of my ass.

“Maybe you should worry about your own f***ing a**. I suggest you put something in it, like a big pineapple or a brick.”

“My mother has things on her mind too. I’m having to get used to seeing two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year,” she told critical fans

Kate’s stepfather Roy Battersby died in January from a “massive stroke” while battling two forms of cancer, which he had been diagnosed with the previous summer.

Shortly after his death, Kate also revealed that her mother Judy Loe had also been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

In recent months, Kate has been caring for her mother and late stepfather, after flying them from the UK to Los Angeles to stay with her.

“Kate has been caring for her parents for most of the year, who are both seriously ill,” a source exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com late last year.
