Rhonda from iconic AAMI adverts reveals she almost quit acting during Covid: ‘I was about to leave the industry’
She is the actress who rose to fame for her role as sweetheart Rhonda in the AAMI car insurance commercials.
But Mandy McElhinney revealed on Monday that she nearly quit her acting career during the Covid pandemic.
The 52-year-old told TV weekshe almost gave up acting after filming season one of Wakefield in 2021.
“Many of us thought it would go again [for season two] but unfortunately they couldn’t bring it back,” she explained.
‘Many of my colleagues have left the industry, I almost joined myself.’

Mandy said co-writing and starring in the recent theater show Dirty Birds with her sister Hayley “saved” her.
“This project with Hayley saved me in a way because we were able to figure out what stories we wanted to tell.”
She continued, “I have no control over my career at all. I can only be thankful for the opportunities that arise.’

Actors Mandy and Kadek Mahardika played Rhonda and Ketut in the famous AAMI commercials.
Mandy is also known for her roles in TV shows including Love Child and Bad Mothers.
Rhonda and Ketut’s ads first appeared in 2012 to promote AAMI’s safe driver insurance.
In the series of advertisements, Rhonda meets her younger lover while on vacation in Bali, before their summer love turns into a long-term relationship.
