RHOBH’s Jennifer Tilly says she does ‘not feel rich’ after Simpsons divorce settlement revelation

Actress Jennifer Tilly joined Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for season 14 – and her extravagant lifestyle is on display in the reality series.

Jennifer, 66, owns four properties – two of which are next door to each other in Bel Air – as well as one in Malibu and one in Las Vegas.

On an episode of RHOBH, Jennifer showed off a Louis Vuitton-shaped boat bag, which Bravo noted in the show’s caption cost $33,000.

Last month, Jennifer revealed on an episode of RHOBH that she still receives ongoing royalties from The Simpsons — after receiving a portion of them in her divorce settlement from ex-husband and Simpsons creator Sam Simon.

Jennifer spoke E! News about how people are so interested in hearing about her finances and wealth.

‘I’m surprised. First of all, I don’t consider myself rich. But I think I’m delusional because I have several properties and a wallet that apparently costs $33,000,” she told the newspaper.

Adding, “I thought everyone knew I had a piece of The Simpsons. It’s not a big piece, but even a small piece is something to write home about.’

The Oscar-nominated actress, who has been friends with RHOBH co-star Sutton Stracke for more than 16 years, lives with her professional poker player Phil Laak.

‘My boyfriend and I live very simply and in a very small, messy house. Yes, there’s a huge house next door, but we’re not going there. I think we’re a little delusional. I have a huge mansion or a driver who calls me Miss Tilly and makes out with me as Sutton [Stracke]’s driver. I just live my life the way I used to live,” she told the outlet.

She noted that she was shocked that people didn’t know she received royalties from Simpsons.

Adding, “What I was surprised about, people, that was fantastic. They said, “She has a house next to her house and she bought a $4,000 dress for her doll.” They’re like ‘high five’. I thought people would say, “How awful that she spent so much money on a dress for her doll when people are hungry.”

“But I think the service that Housewives provides is that people like to live vicariously through us,” she said.

However, she did say that she thinks it’s “a bit lame to show off your wealth,” despite wearing rare handbags on the show.

She did clarify the price of the bag, which according to Bravo cost $33,000, which in reality only cost her $22,000.

However, she did say that she thinks it’s “a bit lame to show off your wealth,” despite wearing rare handbags on the show.

‘It actually didn’t cost $33,000, which I’ll correct now. They must have had an intern figure it out. It happens very rarely. Maybe they raised the price on the secondary market, but I called my contact and said, “How much did I pay for that bag?” She said, “$22,000.”

The star gave her thoughts on why fans love the franchise.

“This is why people love Housewives. “They are so rich and can afford all the plastic surgery the heart could desire, as well as designer clothes and jewelry, but they are still not happy.” That’s the key to Housewives. Like, “Wow, if I had all that wealth, I would be happy.” But these people are miserable. That’s why people like watching Housewives.’

Tilly was married to Sam Simon from 1984 to 1991.

He developed Fox’s wildly popular animated series The Simpsons, which debuted in 1989 and is still going strong.

During a confessional on a December episode, Tilly revealed that she actually owns part of the long-running show, which she got during her divorce from Simon.

Tilly’s net worth is estimated at around $40 million, including income from her Simpsons royalties, acting, reality TV and almost $1 million in income from professional poker.

‘My ex-husband was Sam Simon, the creator of The Simpsons. I was married to him for seven years. We were together for about ten years. And when we got divorced, I got a part of The Simpsons in the divorce settlement, and no one knew that The Simpsons would continue for billions of years. So, every day, honestly, every day I think, thank you, Sam,” Tilly revealed in the confession.

That community property also included her ex-husband’s projects, including the long-running The Drew Carey Show.

Simon also served as a writer and producer for a number of hit shows such as Taxi, Cheers, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, The Tracey Ullman Show, Saturday Night Live and Phenom.

Tilly also spoke about the money coming in from Simon’s Simpsons revenue in a November 2021 podcast.

“I used to make a lot of films because the roof leaked, or to pay for the plumbing, and now I don’t have to anymore,” Tilly said in the podcast.
