RFK. Jr wants Aaron Rodgers as his vice president: Independent takeover of Biden and Trump in 2024 also has ex-WWE star Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura on his list of running mates

  • Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is interested in appointing Aaron Rodgers or Jesse Ventura as vice president
  • The New York Times reported Tuesday on Kennedy’s efforts to recruit the two unconventional running mates
  • Because Kennedy is running as an independent, he will have to name a vice presidential candidate in the coming weeks to appear on the ballot in some states.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is interested in NFL star Aaron Rodgers or ex-wrestler Jesse β€œThe Body” Ventura as his vice presidential pick.

The New York Times reported this on Tuesday Kennedy approached both Rodgers and Ventura, a former governor of Minnesota, about appearing on his ticket, sources told the newspaper.

Rodgers is still playing in the NFL and should be a starting quarterback for the New York Jets in the fall.

Like Kennedy, he is a prominent vaccine skeptic.

Ventura introduced Kennedy at a campaign event in Arizona last month and the two have been in touch since.

Unlike former President Donald Trump, who may take his time announcing a vice presidential pick, Kennedy will have to name a running mate in the coming weeks to appear as an independent on the general election ballot in some states .

It’s unclear whether Rodgers or Ventura are seriously considering this.

Both picks are unconventional β€” like Kennedy’s run to start β€” and could add some star power to the scion’s independent run.

However, choosing Rodgers or Ventura β€” and not someone who has recently held elected office β€” could show voters that Kennedy is not serious about winning.

Ventura served only one term as governor and decided not to run for re-election, and that was 21 years ago.

Democrats have already criticized Kennedy for running for president, including members of the candidate’s famous family.

Kennedy began his campaign last year as a Democrat and then announced in October that he would instead run as an independent β€” meaning he wouldn’t have to run against President Joe Biden in the Democratic primaries to get on the ballot for the general election to appear.

Instead, his campaign would have to try to get his name on the ballot in every state, a feat that has kept most aspiring presidential candidates from running a third party.

Kennedy has also flirted with the Libertarian Party, which has a permanent place in presidential elections.

The Libertarians will pick their 2024 ticket at a convention later this spring.

Democrats fear that Kennedy will play a spoiler for Biden, giving Trump his second term.

Polls show Kennedy picking voters from both parties’ candidates β€” though this would likely hurt Biden more than Trump, in part because Biden trails the former president in some surveys.
