Incredible Transformation For The Dog No One Wanted To Operate: Rex The Siberian Husky Is Rescued After Loving Owner Begs For Help On TikTok

  • Rex’s owner initially sought treatment for his beloved pet in Cadiz, Spain
  • After his video plea, surgery about 560 miles away removed the tumor

A Siberian husky named Rex has had an amazing transformation after having a massive tumor removed thanks to a begging TikTok video from his owner.

The six-year-old dog suffered a tumor on his snout that was so large that he could no longer see and breathe properly, and no one wanted to operate on him.

Concerned about his pet’s condition, Rex’s owner, Damián, sought treatment for his beloved pet from a number of veterinary clinics in the province of Cádiz, in southwestern Spain, where he lives.

However, all clinics told him that this type of tumor could not be operated on and the vets did not give Rex long to live.

In a last-ditch effort to save his dog’s life, Damián posted a video on TikTok aiming to find a vet in Spain who could treat him.

After Rex had the tumor removed, the vets say he is well on his way to recovery

The director of an animal shelter who came across the video told the owner to contact the Faunivet veterinary clinic in Vinarós, about 900 kilometers away by car.

The fast-growing tumor was a fibrosarcoma, a cancer that originated from fibrous connective tissue.

In dogs, this cancer is most common around the mouth.

“Rex is a male Husky dog that we heard about through the director of an animal shelter,” Faunivet veterinarians Francisco Serrano and Nacho Martín-Macho told Newsweek last week.

In a last-ditch effort to save his dog’s life, Damián posted a video to TikTok aiming to find a vet in Spain who could treat Rex

“This woman showed us some pictures of Rex’s head, and the large tumors on his face, to ask if there was anything we could do for him.”

The Faunivet team told Damián they thought the tumor could possibly be operated on, so the owner made the long journey to the clinic.

“No clinic they had consulted before gave him any chance, and the only remedy they gave him was euthanasia,” said Martín-Macho and Serrano.

The Faunivet team examined the dog and decided that the operation could go ahead.

“Rex was already suffering from breathing problems, difficulty eating and extensive infection in the area due to ulceration of the tumor at the time,” the vets said.

‘The type of tumor is a fast-growing fibrosarcoma, with a small chance of metastasis, but a high chance of local recurrence.’

The complex operation took more than three hours, but fortunately there were no significant complications.

“I managed to remove the tumor, and then [conduct] a complicated facial reconstruction successfully,’ said Martín-Macho and Serrano.

Since the surgery, Rex is well on the way to recovery, according to the vets.

His mood has improved and he has gained weight. A vet in Cádiz also sees him for periodic checkups.

The team is happy that the surgery was a success and that Rex can live a normal life again.

If the tumor comes back, the vets say it can be controlled before it gets as big as it was, if only it is treated in time.
