  • Sydneysider won the lottery
  • They thought it was a scam
  • The winning ticket raised 100,000

A Lotto winner has revealed how he almost didn’t claim his $100,000 winnings because he thought it was a scam.

The resident of Revesby, southwest Sydney, had no idea they had won the first prize in Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw 10765.

He then got a call from an unknown number and almost didn’t answer because he thought they were scammers.

An Aussie from Revesby got a call saying they just won $100,000 but almost answered because he thought it was just another scam

The gambler picked up the phone and was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was in fact Lotto officials who informed him of his win.

He revealed that he had been playing Lucky Lotteries for 10 years but never thought he would actually win.

‘Oh my God! I thought this was a joke,” he said.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am now that I answered. I’ve been playing Lucky Lotteries for 10 years, but you never really expect to win.’

The lucky gambler revealed how he planned to spend his money.

He said he would use it to catch up on monthly bills and pay off his debts.

“I’ll use it all to pay off the mortgage on my recently bought home, and that’s enough for me,” he said.

“The timing of this couldn’t be better.”

He’s not the first gambler to almost miss out on the chance of a lifetime because Lotto officials have been mistakenly confused with scammers.

In February, another lottery winner couldn’t believe the win wasn’t a scam when she won the biggest Division 1 prize of any Australian lottery in 2023.

The winner, from Echuca, VIC, had the only first division winning entry in Powerball draw 1394 on Thursday, February 2, taking home the full $40 million jackpot.

‘Oh my God! I can’t believe it, I thought it was a scam!’ she exclaimed.

This just doesn’t feel real. How do I know if this is real?’

After confirming the win, she said the plan was to quit her job and spend more time with her family.
