REVEALED: Why Nia Jax decided to return to WWE, will she join The Rock and Roman Reigns in the Bloodline and how did her spot in the 2019 men’s Royal Rumble happen?
- Nia Jax returned to WWE after a two-year hiatus at the Royal Rumble in Janaury
- She is a real-life cousin of The Rock, who recently made his own return to WWE
- Jax lost in the main event of the Elimination Chamber in Perth to Rhea Ripley
The Elimination Chamber in Perth, Australia, was always going to be Rhea Ripley’s night, but Nia Jax kept her end of the bargain as she faced the national hero across the ring.
The 39-year-old returned to the company at this year’s Royal Rumble after about a two-year absence and is looking better than ever.
With Triple H now in power in WWE, Jax told MailSport ahead of Elimination Chamber that the stars were aligned for her return.
‘I was away for a while and was able to come back to myself. This job is very tough and I’ve been on the road non-stop for seven and a half years, without really taking the time for myself,” Jax explains.
‘The time away was very good for me personally, but then I missed it. Once you catch the wrestling bug, you’ll never get rid of it.
Nia Jax headlined the Elimination Chamber in her native country, Australia
Rhea Ripley got the win on the night, booking her match with Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 40
“Getting back in the ring and training with Nattie (Natalya) and TJ (Wilson) made me more excited to do it and then I thought, ‘You know what, let me see if I can still get back in the ring can and it can do’ ‘.
“I’ve always loved Triple H. He helped create Nia Jax, he’s the one who hired me and he helped me develop it; I loved my run in NXT and he did all that.
“He’s got a great mind and I think he’s doing a great job,” Jax said.
Jax, real name Savelina Fanene, is a real-life cousin of The Rock, just like Roman Reigns.
Both Rock and Reigns are currently on the warpath in WWE, united in the Bloodline. Would Jax ever want to get involved with a stable with her real blood?
Jax and The Rock are real-life cousins and both made their WWE returns in January of this year
In addition to The Rock and Nia Jax, The Usos and Roman Reigns are also in the same family tree
“I just don’t want to outdo them…I think that’s it! (laughs).
“They’re afraid I might outshine them, and I understand that!” I get it guys, do your thing. I don’t want to steal your spotlight,” Jax joked.
“If it worked out that way (with her joining), I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I am very loyal to my family. If they need me, I’m there 100%. So they know where to call me,” Jax claimed.
One of Jax’s most famous moments in a WWE ring came during the 2019 Men’s Royal Rumble.
Only four women have ever competed in the 30-man Battle Royal since its inception in January 1988, with Jax being the last.
The former former RAW Women’s Champion says it was the highlight of her entire WWE career and credits the men involved for making this moment happen.
‘An incredible moment. Probably one of the peak moments of my entire career.
‘I’ll take the RKO, 619, Zig-Zag. The boys were great; I’m super cool with Randy and I was scared to take his RKO just because I’d never taken it before and he just said ‘Hey, just turn left and I’ll ride with it.’
“Same with Rey, same with Dolph. Ali was there with me, Andrade; they were all very caring and made sure I was doing well.”
