Revealed: Why Man United are facing wait to seal signing of Arsenal wonderkid – as national team boss explains teenager’s best ability

Manchester United are still awaiting approval from the Premier League and the Football Association to complete the signing of Arsenal player Chido Obi-Martin.

Obi-Martin, 16, confirmed he would be leaving the Gunners in late July, with the youngster reportedly agreeing terms to sign for Man United.

The striker has reportedly turned down further financial support from abroad to sign for Man United, having been convinced by the ongoing project at Old Trafford.

This summer, recruiting top players for the youth academy was one of the main focuses at Man United under their new football management.

Goal have reported that Obi-Martin’s move to Man United is being held up by legal issues.

Arsenal are receiving a transfer fee from Man United for the role they played in his development, despite his contract expiring in the summer.

Both clubs are in talks over a compensation amount so that Obi-Martin can complete the transfer.

It is said the case could go to court to determine how much Man United must pay the Gunners if the clubs cannot agree on the transfer fee.

The teenager has joined the Danish under-18 squad for the first time during the international break, with national coach Morten Eskesen saying it is ‘only a matter of time’ before his new club is announced.

“I spoke to him last week and asked him if he was fit for the match and injury-free,” Eskesen said Tips sheet. He was, and he is, between jobs. Right now he has no club, but it’s only a matter of time.

‘There’s a lot going on in the transfer window. We know what he’s about. He’s scored a lot of goals.

“His greatest competence is that he scores a lot of goals. If you look at the goals at the European Championships. He is a very good finisher and positional, so he gets free rein for that.

“He’s also good in man-to-man. He’s good at running deep in relation to getting into open positions. His finishing skills are what allows him to score so many goals.

“One is to get the chances, number two is to score. He is above average there and that is what makes him so interesting.”

Obi-Martin joined Arsenal from Kjobenhavns Boldklub in Denmark.
